When I was growing up, I lived in a household where my dad took care of the finances and my mom took care of the house and the children.
My dad’s dementia started manifesting itself when he would forget things. He would forget where he placed things. He would forget what he was going to be doing.
I had to meet with the places that he had his accounts and learn what it would take to assist in helping my dad manage his finances.
If you have a parent that will find it very challenging to give up control of any type, like my dad, I would encourage you to be persistent and very patient, to come alongside and be a trusted advocate just like they were to you when you were growing up.
