Login ID

A Login ID will allow one-click access to your accounts, without having to login separately to each account. A Login ID can be 6-20 characters long. It can include numbers and letters. It must contain at least one letter.

This refers to your 8-digit Schwab Brokerage Account number.

Primary Account

The first account you will see when you login to the Customer Center using your Login ID.

Nicknames

Optional feature used to replace account number in Select Account pull-down menu. You may change your nicknames by clicking on "Edit List" in the Select Account pull-down menu.

Account Group

Account Group

Feature used to group accounts by investment objective. You may create a unique account group by clicking on "Click here to customize your group name from the "Edit List" function in the pull-down menu. You may view your account groups from the Balances, Positions, and Overview pages under the Account tab.

Select Account Pull-Down List

Once you have created a Login ID and password, your linked account(s) will appear in the Select Account pull-down list, which is available in the upper right hand corner of most screens within the Customer Center. To view another account, choose the account in the pull-down list. You will be sent to the same screen for that new account. The Select Account pull-down list also contains an "Edit List" function which allows you to create/edit account nicknames, create Account Groups, or add or remove an account from your list.

3. What should I use as my Login ID?

4. For the Authentication page, what if I don't have a position in my account?
If you do not have a security position in your account, then your response should be "None of the Above".

5. Which accounts are eligible to be in my Account list?

  • Owner or Limited Power of Attorney must have trading authority. 
  • Owner cannot be acting in a Financial Advisor (FA) role 
  • Account must be open

6. Why does my list not contain all my accounts?

  • If accounts are missing from your list, there could be a few reasons why: 
  • you are not the owner on the account (it is not in your name) 
  • you do not have trading authority on the account 
  • the account is closed 
  • your Social Security number does not appear on your account

7. Can I use the same password with my new Login ID as I used with my accounts?
Yes; however, for additional security we recommend the password to be different.

8. How do I add or remove a new account?
To add or remove an account, click on "Edit List" in the Select Account pull-down list. To include an account under the new Login ID, click the "Include in List" box next to the account you would like to add to your list. If you open a new account, we will link that account to your Login ID and add it to your list. To remove an account, unclick the box by the appropriate account number.

9. How is the Account Group used?
The Account Group feature is used to assign accounts to groups by similar investment objectives (Retirement, Trust/Estate, Education, or a Group of your choice). This will enable you to view groups of like accounts together to help summarize your overall financial picture.

10. Where on the site can I view my groups of accounts?
Once you have grouped your accounts by investment objective, the Balances, Positions and Overview pages will display your group names in the Select Account pull-down menu (together with your individual accounts). Click on a group name to view the balances and positions for the accounts in that group only.

11. How do I change my nicknames or account groups?
To change your nicknames or account groups, click on "Edit List" from the Select Account pull-down list in the upper right hand corner of most screens. Update your nicknames or account groups next to the applicable account.
