SCHWAB COACHING®

Meet Cameron May.

The Newbie Navigator, known for helping to shorten the learning curve.

"The markets are always evolving, so I’m always learning. I share that knowledge with my students to help keep them ahead of the curve." — Cameron May

The short story.

Cameron May, a Brigham Young University Marriott School of Business grad, hit the ground running on Wall Street back in 1997. He spent eight solid years with some big-name firms, juggling roles as a full-service broker, margin analyst, risk analyst, and trader. In 2005, he decided to switch things up and dive into education, where he's been schooling tens of thousands of investors on everything from value and growth investing to portfolio management, technical analysis, and options trading. Cameron's even had the privilege of presenting at the NFL Personal Finance Camps in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in 2016 and 2017. He's got his Series 3, 7, and 63 licenses, so he's always ready to talk shop.

Cameron May: My name is Cameron May. I'm a Schwab Education Coach, and I specialize in taking beginning traders through that learning process of understanding options trades and also maybe in particular, stock charts.

Onscreen text: What do you love most about being an Education Coach?

Cameron May is sitting on a sofa in a relaxed setting.

Cameron May: The thing that I really love about being a coach is that the markets and the opportunities are always changing. It's ever evolving.

There's always something new and fun to learn about and some new and fun way to pursue that as an opportunity. And then I get to spend my day communicating that to anybody that will just listen to me.

I really enjoy that personal interaction that I get through the chat capabilities that we have in our webcasts, where my clients can ask me, and my audience can ask me questions, and I can provide immediate feedback about strategies, about the markets. That sort of stuff is fabulous.

A computer screen with financial visuals appears, with Cameron May in a small video window in the lower left corner, talking.

Onscreen text: What is your coaching style like?

Cameron May is sitting on a sofa in a relaxed setting.

Cameron May: I seem to have an ability to just never leave anybody in the dust.

If you're watching one of my webcasts, I want you to understand every word out of my mouth, even if it's your first time there.

So, really, my expertise as a coach is to make complicated things simple and then just communicate that to my audience at every level.

Onscreen text: What makes you tick?

Cameron May is sitting on a sofa in a relaxed setting.

Cameron May: The overarching value that drives me as a coach is just that I want everybody to have the best results in life that they can, and whatever role I might play in accomplishing that, that's fantastic.

So, yes. I talk about strategies that offer reward potential, but one thing that can really put a drag on the long term performance is if you don't recognize risk and you don't have a plan for that risk. So, a big part of my delivery is going to be on risk assessment and risk management. And that sort of stuff sounds kind of routine to somebody, but it gets me up in the morning.

Onscreen text: What makes Schwab Coaching® unique?

Cameron May: So, one of the ways that we really accelerate the learning process for the new trader is to actually demonstrate how the whole thing works.

Because it's one thing to discuss the theory of trading. It's entirely another thing when you're trying to learn this, to see it being applied in real time.

So, we use the thinkorswim® desktop trading software platform to discuss the theory of different strategies but then we go immediately to placing those trades and then monitoring those trades over a series of webcasts to see how they play out, to see how to manage the upside if the trade works out as planned but also, more importantly, how to manage that or mitigate that downside.
