Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bill Pay and Brokerage Well integrated, Lousy Rate I really like using Schwab Bank's Bill Pay. It's easy to move income from brokerage and IRA accounts to the checking account, although the way below market interest rate has me moving all excess cash to an external account. Minor quibble, I wish there were a direct link to bill pay from the Summary web page. The outside ATM re-imbursement feature is great.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Problem with Remote Deposit I'm satisfied with every aspect of Schwab Bank except for the remote deposit. The apps on both my computer and iPad refuse to accept the photos I take of the check I'm trying to deposit. When the Schwab Bank app fails I open a similar app from a local bank and experience no problem with the photos or any other part of the deposit process. I would prefer to deposit my checks in Schwab Bank, so I hope they soon fix the app.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good product I've had this checking account for a year and really like it. What makes it stand out for me are the following: 1) ATM fees waived, 2) I can see images of checks I've written AND deposited, and 3) Schwab's legendary customer service is fantastic - when I call, which is rare, I always get somebody knowledgeable. The only concern I have is not being able to receive an alert when my account balances falls below a preset amount. They have told me they are working on this, but that's been the status for years. Other than that, a really great account!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I want from online checking Easily the best checking account I've ever held. Unlimited ATM reimbursement, even overseas-- withdrew GBP in London with no fee and no foreign transaction fee. Online check deposit via the mobile app (and mail deposit as well if you don't have a smartphone). The mobile app itself is actually fantastic, one of the better financial apps I've used. One of only two companies I don't mind calling on the phone because it's always such a pleasant experience, I always get someone in the US, and I've never waited more than 2-3 minutes on hold. I've called to cancel a skimmed card, to set travel notifications, and to ask where to get cashier's checks, and it's always been great. Two clicks to move money back and forth between the linked brokerage account, and you can manage them from the same portal. Poor interest rate, but not any different than any other checking account. If you regularly work with cash and aren't near a branch, you'll need another account since Schwab has no cash deposit ATMs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Contacting Schwab Bank I called Schwab Bank and two others to inform then that we would be traveling to Europe and the countries we would be visiting so we could use our credit cards. The process was quick and easy with Schwab Bank, someone answered my call immediately. I had to wait on the phone for over twenty minutes with another bank listening to the same message, repeated over and over, telling me they were experiencing higher than usual calling volumes and that my call was important to them. The other bank had an automated system that worked fairly well (not as good as speaking to Schwab Bank) but better than the other bank. I used my Schwab VISA ATM card exclusively.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Checking as promised---exactly what I want I've been a Schwab checking customer for more than four years, and can't recall any surprises with the account during that time. While I might ask to change a feature or two, Schwab's delivery on its promises is the most important factor, for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Sailing So Far I opened the checking account years ago but hardly ever used it because I was happy with my local bank. Things are changing however due to a merger of my bank with a bank where we had a previous unhappy experience. So we have ordered up new checks, requested, received and activated new ATM/Debit cards and transferred some funds from our other bank account. One nit to pick - the four business day hold on funds transferred from an outside account seems a bit extreme. But I suppose in this age of cyber scum bags more care is required. So far so good. The "reactivation" process was smooth and easy. In less than one minute I was speaking with a very helpful service rep with a clear phone connection. After a few questions everything was complete. It will be disconcerting not to have a local bank branch to visit, but realistically - about 99% of our family banking was done on-line anyway. And we could have ordered checks and ATM cards on-line so the phone call was unnecessary. After the merger with our existing bank, the new bank will not offer ATM fee-free cards unless we keep a minimum balance, and they will limit the fee rebate to $6 per month unless we keep a very large minimum deposit. Not so with the Schwab account. Second - our two credit cards currently have a feature whereby foreign transactions are not charge a transaction fee. The new bank's credit card will not offer this feature unless you pay an annual fee, or again, keep a very large minimum on deposit. Problem solve if we use the Schwab ATM/Debit card for foreign purchases. So in this, our first month of reactivation - we are quite happy with the checking account.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Domestic Banking, but Horrible Experience Internationally They offer FREE ATM charges and rebates for any ATM fees you incur on the other side. This is great, when it works in the USA. However, I recently went traveling abroad and despite filling out a Travel Authorization Form to authorize international charges and ATM withdrawals, Schwab/Visa continued to "lock" my account due to suspicious activity. Spent a couple hours on the phone speaking to multiple people, after "unlocking" my account again but still no luck. I guess you can't get charged ATM fees, if they don't let you use the ATM. Luckily I had my bank card from my other banking institution and used that. Horrific ATM fees.
