StreetSmart Edge® lets you create multiple custom watch lists to help you keep a close eye on important details and real time market data for the securities you’re targeting.
First, review these important disclosures.
This guided tour shows you how to get the most out of your watch lists by using a wide selection of available features.
Create multiple custom watch lists in a single window to help you stay organized and current with all of the latest market data.
To get started, let’s access the Watch List Tool.
You can access the Watch List Tool from the Launch Tools menu.
The watch list window appears and you can create a tab for each new watch list.
To add an individual security to your watch list, you first enter the symbol in the Add Symbol(s) search field and then click Add.
Let’s add Google, Inc.® (symbol: GOOG) to the watch list.
The security appears in a new row on your watch list.
You can also add securities one at a time by clicking + add symbol(s).
To add an option to your watch list, you enter the complete option symbol.
Then click Add.
The option contract appears on your watch list.
As a tip within other tools in StreetSmart Edge, you can right-click a symbol to copy it and then right-click over the Add Symbol(s) field of the watch list to paste it.
The pasted symbol appears in your watch list.
StreetSmart Edge makes it easy to quickly build your watch list by enabling you to add multiple symbols at one time.
You can enter multiple symbols separated by a comma and then click Add. The watch list populates with the symbols you entered.
You can use the Add Group feature to create custom groups, helping you organize the information and simplify research and trading workflow.
You can drag and drop symbols to move them to and from groups in a watch list.
You can right-click on the group header to add symbols, edit the group name, or remove the group.
With streaming market data and alerts to breaking news, watch lists can help you monitor your list of securities. Current quotes and volume data change instantly to show the latest market activity. The symbol column now freezes when you scroll right, so that you always know what symbol row you are watching. You can now examine the data, along with the respective symbol much easier.
Whenever you see the recent news indicator appearing next to an item in your list, you can click the News icon to view the latest headlines. Let’s access the news for Cisco, Inc.® (symbol: CSCO). The news window appears, showing the latest news stories for CSCO.
Right-click menus allow instant access to frequently used functions for a streamlined experience. To create an alert or access common trading functions, just right-click a security on your watch list. The right-click menu appears showing a list of tasks you can access.
To help you stay organized, you can name your watch list and save it for use in other layouts. To rename the watch list, you first double-click the watch list name, and then enter a new name. The watch list is now identified by the new name.
You can customize your watch list with a wide choice of details by clicking Actions to access Columns & Settings. Let’s access Columns & Settings to see the choices available.
The Manage Columns and Settings window appears. Here you can choose column data and default settings to meet your needs. You can apply a template to your watch list to use settings from an available sample or from a template you previously created. Choose between the long names or abbreviations for sectors and industries by clicking the associated button. You can choose Auto-Sort in Real-Time to have your data sort instantaneously without the need to refresh your view each time your watch list contents change. For options, you can change your Greek pricing model or default interest rate setting here. Choose the data to display by selecting the check boxes for the items you want to see on your watch list. To change the column order, you can select an item on the list, and then use the Up and Down buttons to move it. You can change the settings on all of your layouts by clicking Apply to all Watch List tabs; otherwise, leave the default selected to change only this layout. When you are finished customizing your watch list, click OK.
To quickly change column data, you can right-click the column header and select an item on the menu. The right-click menu provides a scrollable list of available data that you can choose.
You can quickly sort the table by any column by clicking the desired column header. You can quickly rearrange the table by dragging and dropping the column label to a new location. To drag and drop a column, you first click and hold over the column header. Then drag it to a new location. The column appears in the new location.
To use a watch list in other layouts, you can save it using the right-click menu. Let’s save the Tech Stocks watch list. You first right-click over the tab to access the right-click menu. On the right-click menu, select Save Tech Stocks Tab. The watch list is saved.
To create another watch list on your layout, you can click the + to add a new watch list tab. As an alternative, you can also open a saved watch list using the right-click menu. StreetSmart Edge lets you instantly create a watch list from your current positions. Let’s add the My Positions watch list to your layout. You first mouse over a watch list tab and right-click to access the menu. From the right-click menu, select Open Watch List to access your saved watch lists. The My Positions watch list is added to your layout. Now you can use the My Positions watch list tab to view market updates to your holdings in real-time.
You can rearrange your watch lists by clicking a tab and dragging it to a new location. Your watch list tabs are arranged in the new order. To remove a watch list, you can mouse over the tab and click the x. The watch list is now removed from your layout.
To limit the space taken up by borders and headers, click the Streamline View icon. While in Streamline View, access additional watch lists under the Tabs menu. Click the icon again to return to Standard View.
