This guided tour shows you how to use StreetSmart Edge to efficiently manage your positions with customizable data and lot level details. You’ll learn how to view real-time realized gain and loss calculators, updated whenever you close a position.
Let’s get started. The Accounts Details tool provides the latest information on your account holdings and activity. You can access the Accounts Details tool from the Launch tools menu.
Access the Positions tabs for details on your holdings and real-time updates during market hours to your unrealized gain and loss information. The Positions tab provides a complete list of your current positions including stocks, options, ETFs, mutual funds, and bonds. Strategy view lets option traders group positions by strategy, or by underlying stock, for improved visibility and margin transparency.
StreetSmart Edge helps you see where you stand with unrealized gain and loss calculations, both for the day, and since opening the position, based on available cost data.
StreetSmart Edge helps you maintain view of the Symbol column by freezing the pane as you scroll left and right. During market hours, figures are updated in real-time to reflect the latest price data. You can add, edit, or remove brackets for an existing order by right-clicking on the row. You can choose from a wide range of available details to customize your view. You can click Actions to customize your view. You can choose which data to display by clicking the associated check boxes. To change the column order, you can click an item on the list, then use the Up and Down arrows to adjust its location. You can choose Auto-Sort in Real-Time to have your data sort instantaneously, eliminating the need to refresh your view. To further customize the option data provided, you can change the Greek pricing model or interest rate here. You can seamlessly update all of your layouts by selecting Apply to all Position tabs; otherwise, keep the default setting to update only this Position tab.
Quick changes to the table are easy. You can drag and drop and column to a new spot to get the view that best suits your needs. You can right-click to change column data to any item on the menu.
Holding multiple positions in one security? The intuitive design helps you manage multiple related stocks and options positions by conveniently organizing them according to the underlying security. StreetSmart Edge provides a helpful breakdown of specific lot level information so that you can have a more detailed view of your holdings. You can click the yellow arrow for more detail. You’ll see lot-level details including open date, quantity, cost, holding period, and unrealized gains or losses when available. The cost basis method on file for the account is conveniently displayed above the positions table. You can click the link to read more about cost basis methods.
As always, StreetSmart Edge helps you move seamlessly from your current task to common next steps. You can right-click on a row to add or edit brackets, close the position, or access other frequently-used features. You can also save time by using the Close Position button to close a stock, option, or ETF from the Positions tab. In the pop-up screen, you can quickly enter trade details to close all or part of the position. Let’s deselect Close All and change the share quantity. Next, you enter the desired share quantity to change the order. When closing all or part of a position, the Cost Basis Method can be accessed or changed from the Special Conditions menu. To manually select individual lots opened to the sale, you can select Specified Lots. If you selected Specified Lost, you can now select all, or just a certain share amount, from the available lots. Note: You can make changes to the cost basis method or lot selections up until 12am ET of the trade settlement date. Once you are finished matching lots, you can click Update to proceed with the Order Review. When ready, you click Review Order to continue. When prompted to verify your order, you review the details for accuracy. Then you click Place Order to submit.
To view gains and losses for the day’s trading, click the Realized Gain/Loss tab. First, read and review the disclosure and click OK to continue. The Realized Gain/Loss tab shows the results of your trading activity throughout the day with updated realized gain and loss calculations whenever you close a position. You can see helpful figures like total dollar and per share realized profit and losses in dollars or as a percent. As on the Position tab, you can display available lot-level detail by clicking the arrow to expand that row. You can expand all rows by clicking the yellow arrow in the Symbol column header. In addition to original cost data for the lots, you see the total proceeds and proceeds per share realized by the closing trade. As with the Positions tab, you can customize the table by right-clicking over the column headers, using the Actions menu, or dragging and dropping columns. To help you manage your position data, details on your holding are just a click away in many frequently used StreetSmart Edge tools like the Symbol Hub. The Position indicator shows you that the security is one you currently hold. Noted beside the Position Indicator, you see the number of shares you hold, long or short, along with the average cost if available. In the pop-up screen, you’ll see your number of shares, unrealized profit or loss and a link to the Close Position screen. In the chart inlay, you can see your number of shares, unrealized profit or loss and a link to the Close Position screen.
