Jim Peterson is responsible for strategic asset allocation, investment manager research, and the advice content underlying many advice tools for Charles Schwab & Co. In this role, he also serves as a portfolio manager for Schwab Intelligent Portfolios™, an automated investment advisory solution. Prior to joining Schwab in 1998, Peterson was a member of the finance faculty at the University of Notre Dame.

Throughout his career, Peterson's research and articles have been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including: Journal of Financial Planning, Journal of Portfolio Management, Financial Analysts Journal, Financial Management, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. In 1997, he was named outstanding teacher in BusinessWeek's "Guide to the Best Business Schools".

Peterson earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in finance from Louisiana State University.
