Learn more about Target Funds
With Schwab Target Funds, simply pick the mutual fund that matches your retirement date and let Schwab do the rest. Why Schwab Target Funds?
What are target date funds?Target date funds are mutual funds that are professionally managed according to your target retirement date—ideal for investors who don’t have time to manage their own investments. The funds are built for investors who expect to start gradual withdrawals of fund assets on the target date, to begin covering expenses in retirement. The principal value of the funds is not guaranteed at any time, and will continue to fluctuate up to and after the target date.An asset allocation strategy that’s right for youWhen you’re years away from retirement—A higher proportion of your assets is invested in stocks to give you more growth potential, and the opportunity to keep up with inflation so you don’t outlive your portfolio. When you’re closer to retirement—A higher proportion of your assets is invested in bonds and cash to help give you the increased stability and income you need in retirement. When you’re in retirement—Throughout your retirement, the assets in your fund continue to be invested conservatively. Its allocation to fixed income investments increases while some exposure to stocks is maintained to help cover your everyday retirement expenses. ![]()
