Questions to Ask Your Investment Professional About Fees

Print

We believe that you should know what you’re paying—and how those fees might impact your returns. The following questions highlight common types of fees. Not all of these fees may be applicable to the types of accounts you hold and/or the types of securities held in each account. If you don’t know the answers to these questions, we encourage you to follow up with your investment professional.

  1. 1. How much are you being charged in management fees?

You can review the firm’s fee schedule and ask for any clarification from your investment professional.
  2. 2. What operating expenses are you paying for the underlying investment products in your portfolio?

Typically, you can find this information on financial websites or you can check with your investment professional.
  3. 3. How much do you pay in commissions and/or transaction fees for trades in your account?

Review your statement and trade confirmations or ask your investment professional.
  4. 4. Does your firm charge fees for simply having an account?

Review your statement or ask your investment professional.
