What happens to the investments in my old account?

In many cases, you can transfer your investments to Schwab as-is; they simply move from your old account into your new account. This means you may not need to sell or liquidate any assets. Our account transfer specialists can answer questions about whether your investments are transferable.

Note: Assets take three to six weeks to transfer. You can check the status of your transfer any time. Once your account transfer is under way, simply log in to your Schwab.com account, go to the Accounts tab, then select Transfers & Payments.

Already have a Schwab account?

If you already have a Schwab account, our new online transfer process can reduce transfer processing time to as little as seven days.

Log in to your Schwab.com account, go to the Accounts tab, then select Transfers & Payments.
Provide the firm’s name and your account number, and verify your name as it appears on the account.
Electronically sign the application by clicking through the agreements and consent form. We’ll take care of the rest.
